Land Rover Auto Electrics
Electrical gremlins are where most garages give up on a Land Rover — and where we do some of our best work. Defender Syndicate handles auto electrics for the full Land Rover range at our Carnforth workshop, near Lancaster: fault finding, dealer-level diagnostics, wiring repairs, and full rewires for everything from classic Series vehicles and Defenders to the latest New Defender, Discovery, and Range Rover models. Intermittent faults, flat batteries, non-starters, and warning lights other workshops couldn't trace — bring them to us and we'll find the cause, not just the symptom.
Proper diagnostics, not parts roulette
Modern Land Rovers are rolling networks — Td5 and Puma ECUs, CAN bus, body control modules, air suspension, and immobilisers all talking to each other. We use dealer-level diagnostic equipment to read what the vehicle is actually saying, then trace the fault to its cause instead of swapping parts on guesswork. You pay to fix the fault, not to fund an experiment.
Wiring looms, rewires & repairs
Defender looms suffer — corroded bulkhead connectors, chafed insulation, water in the fuse box, and decades of previous owners' add-ons. We repair and remake wiring properly with soldered or crimped joints, marine-grade heatshrink, and correct routing, and we carry out full rewires during restorations, chassis swaps, and M57 engine conversions, including custom engine-management integration.
Common electrical jobs we handle
Non-starters and immobiliser faults, charging and alternator problems, earth faults and parasitic battery drains, lighting and towing electrics, heater and instrument faults, central locking, and dashboard warning lights on later vehicles. We also fit upgrades: LED lighting, split-charge and auxiliary battery systems, winch wiring, USB power, and camera systems.
Serving the North West
We take on electrical work other garages have walked away from, for Land Rover owners across Lancaster, Morecambe, Kendal, Windermere, Penrith, Carlisle, and the wider Lake District. If the vehicle won't start at all, our breakdown support can get it to the workshop.
Frequently asked questions
My Defender has an intermittent electrical fault no one can find. Can you help?
This is our speciality. Intermittent faults are almost always connectors, earths, or chafed looms — we trace them methodically with diagnostics and wiring schematics rather than guessing, and we don't give up on them.
Can you diagnose modern Land Rovers with dashboard warning lights?
Yes — we have diagnostic coverage for the modern range including New Defender, Discovery 3, 4, and 5, and Range Rover models, so we can read fault codes, live data, and module status the same way a main dealer does.
My battery keeps going flat. What's the likely cause?
Usually a parasitic drain — a module not sleeping, a faulty alternator, or an accessory wired permanently live. We measure the drain, isolate the circuit responsible, and fix the cause rather than just selling you a new battery.
Do you rewire Defenders during restorations?
Yes — full rewires are best done during a chassis swap or restoration while everything is accessible. We build tidy, labelled, properly protected looms that will outlast the originals.
