Welding & Chassis Repairs

Rust is a fact of Land Rover life in the North West — salted winter roads and Lakeland weather see to that. Defender Syndicate provides specialist Land Rover welding at our Carnforth workshop, near Lancaster: chassis repairs, outriggers, crossmembers, footwells, and MOT failure work for Defenders, Discoverys, and Series vehicles across Lancashire, the Lake District, and Cumbria. Every repair is cut back to sound metal, properly protected inside and out, and finished to a standard that passes MOTs and stays passed — and when welding stops making financial sense, we'll be the first to tell you.

Chassis welding done properly

There's a world of difference between a plate stitched over rust and a proper repair. We cut corrosion back to sound metal, let in new steel or fit quality repair sections — outriggers, crossmembers, spring hangers, and rail sections — and protect the repair inside and out with weld-through primer and cavity wax. The result passes MOTs and stays passed.

MOT failure & structural repairs

Failed on corrosion? Bring us the fail sheet. We repair chassis, body mounts, seatbelt anchorages, bulkhead footwells, door pillars, and sills to MOT standard, and we'll tell you honestly what's urgent and what can wait. Rear crossmembers — the classic Defender and Series failure — are a staple job, replaced complete with extensions where the rot has spread.

When welding stops making sense

We'll never keep charging you to chase rust around a chassis that's past saving. When repairs in multiple areas start adding up, we'll say so and talk you through a galvanised chassis swap or bulkhead replacement instead — often the cheaper option over a few years of ownership, and always the better vehicle at the end.

Fabrication & repair sections

Alongside repair work we fabricate brackets, mounts, and custom steelwork for winches, racks, and restorations. Repair panels, crossmembers, and chassis sections come through our Britpart supply chain, usually next day — so your Land Rover isn't sitting on the ramp waiting for steel.

Frequently asked questions

My Land Rover failed its MOT on corrosion. What now?

Send us the failure sheet or bring the vehicle in. We'll inspect the areas listed, quote for proper repairs, and flag anything else close to failing so you're not back on the ramp in six months.

How much does Defender chassis welding cost?

It depends entirely on how far the rust has gone — a single outrigger is a modest job, a rear crossmember with extensions is a day or two, and multiple rail repairs start to approach chassis-swap territory. We quote after inspection so the price reflects your vehicle, not a guess.

Do you protect the repairs against future rust?

Always — repairs are primed, painted, and the surrounding cavities treated with wax. We can also underseal and cavity-wax the whole chassis while the vehicle is with us, which is the best money a North West Land Rover owner can spend.

Is my chassis worth repairing or should it be replaced?

Our rule of thumb: isolated rot in one or two areas — repair it; widespread corrosion along the rails — replace it. We'll give you an honest structural assessment and a price for both routes via our chassis swap service.
